Albuquerque Semi-Annual Record Show

Today we ventured to a record show. The first time I went, about two years ago, it was in a larger venue. This is the third year that it was held in the smaller venue, the Eleganté Hotel. It was rather crowded at times and suffocating. There are several token stinkies that are always at these things. There is cat pee guy, BO guy and vomit guy. It would not be the same without them. O yeah, cabbage patch carrying woman deserves a shout out.

We picked up several things:

Anthrax - Fistful of Metal
Celtic Frost - To Mega Therion
Cryptic Slaughter - Stream of Consciousness
Danzig - s/t

Danzig - II-Lucifige
Dewey Redman - Look for the Black Star
Grand Funk Railroad - s/t
Grand Funk Railroad - live album
Herbie Hancock - Thrust
The Hot Rodders - Big Hot Rod
Jimi Hendrix - Cry of Love

John Lee Hooker - Archive Folkways
Keith Jarrett - Fort Yawuh
Keith Jarrett - Shades

Keith Jarrett - Treasure Island
Less Than Jake - Making Fun of Things You Don't Understand
Make Up - After Dark
Marty Robbins - Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Son
gs
Mercyful Fate - The Beginning
Necronomicon - s/t
Perez Prado - Other Latin American Favorites
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
Savoy Brown - Blue Matter
Sodom - Obsessed by Cruelty

Ted Heath - Latin Swingers
Ten Years After - Sssh...
Trapeze - Medusa
The Winners - The Checkered Flag

Here is a picture of the items I was particularly exited about:

If you have ever followed my myspace page I acquired a rather comfortable number of Mexican garage albums, some of these pieces will fit in nicely. I only got the Less that Jake because I really like the song soundcheck, everything else they have ever put out is cringe inducing.

Some of the records are listed for a lot more than we paid for them which may or may not mean anything. It seems that some of the people that sell at this show do not know much about what they are selling. Which is beneficial to the collection! There was this guy that was walking around with a list he printed off the Internet that listed the 500 best records of all time. It still had the web address, unfortunately not clear enough for me to read. He was asking people if they had the records listed, just reading off the list. He never even managed to look through any bin. I heard him ask for Los Rolling (Stones) Sticky fingers, Miles Davis' Bitches Brew and License to Ill by the Beastie Boys. I thought it was a rather random selection, and that is the only reason I looked over and noticed his list. I do not want to judge, but I'm going to. Did he wake up one day and decide he was going to collect vinyl or what? Who just downloads a list and walks around asking? He probably was also asking the moderator to ask who had what records over the loud speaker. Part of going to these things, at least for me, is finding those records that you have been looking for a long time, those you forgot you wanted and those you did not even know you wanted. I had to sing a part of a song to one guy because I did not know the title or artist and he knew it. He also included a personal story of the song free of charge. There is a certain kind of socialization that has to take place that the guy was missing out on. He also probably did not have to wash his hands thoroughly of the record grime.

This is a joint collection. People seem to think Yann somehow has propriety over it but we both had our smaller collections when we met. It burns me up for some reason when people assume I like records because of him, or that I listen to certain things because of him. We have mutually introduced each other to certain music and we have a super diverse collection because we each bring something different. Now the actual record player is a different story...

Here is a link to the collection. It has not been updated since August but will be soon.
